3 sought in downtown knife attack

Police Reports
Sunday, October 28, 2018

San Marcos Police are seeking three men in connection with a knife attack that occurred outside a downtown bar early Friday.

The city said in a news release that the victim, whose name or age was not given, was attacked just outside Nephew’s Bar at the corner of Guadalupe and San Antonio streets around 2:29 a.m. Friday by the suspects who had apparently been waiting for him. The victim was with two friends, though the city did not mention either of them being injured.

The men who had been waiting outside the bar “started an altercation,” after which the victim and his friends “disengaged from the suspects and walked to the victim’s vehicle, which was parked in the 100 block of W. San Antonio Street.”

The press release said that as the victim was unlocking his car, a vehicle pulled up to it, one of the suspects got out and attacked the victim, stabbing him in the lower right abdomen and lacerating his right forearm.

The suspect vehicle, described as a gray 2014 or newer Hyundai sedan with a moon roof and spoiler, then drove westbound on San Antonio Street.

The wounded man’s friends drove him to Central Texas Medical Center, from which he was transferred to Seton South Austin for surgery.

As of press time, there was no word on his condition, and the Daily Record was not given an opportunity to talk directly with police regarding the incident.

Two of the suspects were described as Hispanic — one, about 5 foot 3 inches to 5 foot 5 inches with “average build and a small belly,” with light stubble facial hair and dark brown medium length hair wearing a cream colored T-shirt and a cream colored baseball cap. He looked to be in his 20s. The second, also Hispanic, was said to be 5 feet, 2 inches to 5 feet, 4 inches with a stocky build, “buzz cut” hair and a goatee wearing a maroon T-shirt with a graphic design on the front, gray pants or jean shorts and black shoes. He also appeared to be in his 20s.

The third suspect was described as white about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches with an athletic build and mustache and red or brown receding hair wearing a red T-shirt with white lettering and a red fitted cap. He appeared to be in his 20s as well.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Detective Brady Templeton at 512-753-2317. Callers who wish to reach someone on the weekend, or who want to remain anonymous, can call Crime Stoppers at 800-324-TIPS.
