AFROTC cadets from SMHS take to the skies
Air Force JROTC Cadets from San Marcos High School recently completed requirements for their Young Eagles Flying Certification at the San Marcos Regional Airport.
The Young Eagles program started in 1992 to give young people ages 8 to 17 the opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. Young Eagles are sponsored by Sporty’s Pilot Shop, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Garmin Technologies, and the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

Volunteers from these organizations are member pilots who give their time and aircraft to inspire the next generation of aviators. Cadets who completed the certification will gain free access to Sporty’s Learn to Fly course, free admission to more than 300 science and technology museums and access to valuable flight training awards, education scholarships and Air Academy camperships.
Participating were Naomi Bosquez, Christopher Cameron, Zulema Favela, Seth Heath, Nathaniel Llanes, Adriana Magee, Lilia Reyes, Gabriel Sanders, Megan Seaton, Daniel Valdez, Joshua Valdez and Julianna Villalpando.
