Becerra replacing Conley at CAPCOG

Hays County
Wednesday, December 5, 2018

Hays County rounded out its delegation to the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) General Assembly on Tuesday with the appointment of County Judge-elect Ruben Becerra to the assembly.

“I think this will complete our slate of officers in the general assembly,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe said.

She sits on the CAPCOG assembly, and Precinct 3 Commissioner Lon Shell was just named to the assembly. Becerra’s appointment serves to replace former Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley, who ran against Becerra for the county judge’s seat.

CAPCOG is a regional organization made up of representatives from various counties, cities, school districts and other entities in the Austin region. The organization facilitates cooperation among these entities on issues including transportation, air quality, economic development and emergency communications.

In other business, the commissioners authorized the Office of Emergency Services to repair equipment at three low water crossings around the county for a cost of $5,187.

“We’ve had some damage to our low water crossings,” Ingalsbe said, “and it’s important to get those repaired.”

At a low water crossing on Old Bastrop Highway, a vehicular accident has made it necessary to replace the pole base, solar panel and frame on the monitoring equipment. On Woodacre Drive, the county will move the master pole and make other repairs. At the low water crossing on Creek Road at Onion Creek, a transducer needs to be replaced.

The commissioners also authorized the County Court at Law Office to purchase a laptop and accessories for the Veterans Treatment Court using grant funds. The Texas Veterans Commission has authorized the purchase of the laptop, which the court’s mentor coordinator will use. No county funds are required for the purchase.
