Broadway Bank set to close March 30

Broadway bank is closing its San Marcos Banking Center effective March 30 of next year.

Customers got a letter in the mail Nov. 26 informing them of the impending closure and noting that locations in Kyle, Wimberley and New Braunfels will stay open.

Bank officials say they hope customers will stay with Broadway, which plans to keep the ATM at the bank’s location at 301 N.CM Allen open and also open a second ATM somewhere in town that has the capacity to accept deposits.

“The plan is for those to be in place by the time the facility closes,” said Nathan Kokemor, Broadway’s marketing director.

Kokemor said all of the San Marcos location’s employees will be assigned to other locations “and will continue to stay with the Broadway Bank family.”

He said the closure is part of a wider effort to bring banking more in tune with the times. “We’re optimizing, looking at each location” in an effort to align the company “to the way the majority of our customers are already doing business,” which is increasingly digital.

“We want people to continue to bank with us as the landscape changes and day-to-day transactions go digital” he said. “The way people bank has changed.”

He said more information will be forthcoming to the bank’s personal and commercial customers relating to options for digital transactions, customer service and ATMs.

“We’ll be helping customers with online and mobile transactions. In those cases where they need somebody in person we will have those centers in New Braunfels, Kyle and Wimberley and all of our centers in Austin.”

Broadway took over the old Balcones Bank, which was at the same CM Allen location, in November of 2005.
