Thursday, August 9, 2018

A 17-year-old Buda resident has been tied to a string of recent burglaries in that area.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office says Mathew Xavier Acosta has been arrested three times in the past two months.

On July 11 he was arrested in connection with four vehicular burglaries and one theft of a firearm, then released from custody July 14 on surety bonds totaling $19,000. He was arrested again July 31 for two vehicular burglaries and evading arrest. That incarceration lasted one day, after which he was released on surety bonds totaling $9,000.

Acosta’s third arrested was on Aug. 2 for two vehicular burglaries and two thefts of a firearm. That time his bonds totaled $35,000 and he was released three days later.

The HCSO said all the burglaries involved unlocked vehicles and were committed both in daytime and overnight.

“The Hays County Sheriff wants to caution the public to realize the importance of remaining vigilant, observant and removing all valuables from their vehicle,” Lt. Todd Riffe said.
