Celebrate independence on the river at Summerfest

July Fourth

The 38th annual Summerfest will open at 6 p.m. on July 4 at San Marcos Plaza Park, featuring music, food, vendors, a children’s parade, and a stunning fireworks display. Summerfest is a free, community wide event for the whole family to enjoy.

The Revs will open the festival with a performance at 6 p.m. followed by the band Wyzer at 7:15 p.m. This year’s fireworks exhibition is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Children’s costume contest registration will begin at 6 p.m. in front of the Old Fish Hatchery Building. Line-up will begin at 7:15 p.m.; the parade will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and proceed through the park.

Costumed kids will be judged in “most patriotic” and “cutest” divisions, with prizes awarded in each category and a “best overall” named.  The costume competition has been growing steadily over the last several years and is a highlight of the event.

Summerfest is sponsored by the city of San Marcos with assistance from the San Marcos Lions Noon Lions Club, San Marcos Convention and Visitor Bureau, South Texas Ford Dealers, H-E-B and a host of other corporations, organizations and individuals.

Free parking for Summerfest will be available at the San Marcos Activity Center (501 E. Hopkins Street) and at City Park.

No glass or Styrofoam containers allowed. Smoking of any kind, including vapor/e-cigarettes, is not allowed in parks. For list of city park rules visit www.sanmarcostx.gov/parkrules.
