Chisholm trail firefighter killed in three vehicle accident on Hwy. 21 early Friday morning

A firefighter with Chisholm Trail Fire Rescue (CTFR) died in an automobile accident on Friday morning.

CTFR Chief Mark Padier said Firefighter Nick Zoulek was pronounced dead at the scene after the department he served responded to the reported collision on Hwy. 21 between Niederwald and Uhland. “Nick was on his way to work,” said Chief Ken Bailey of Travis County.

Bailey said the collision involved three vehicles, all of which had a single occupant, and occurred at around 4:30 a.m. The drivers of the two other vehicles were injured, he said.

Padier said Zoulek, who had been with the department about three years, “was selfless in his service to the communities of Caldwell and Hays counties.”

The Department of Public Safety is investigating.
