Keep San Marcos Beautiful has been named a recipient of the 2018 Garden-Ville Materials Grant from Keep Texas Beautiful, in partnership with Garden-Ville. The grant provides San Marcos with $1,000 of gardening materials for beautification efforts.

The Habitat Conservation Plan and Urban Forest divisions will partner in using these materials to revamp plant beds in the 100 block of East Hopkins, improving soil health, addressing compaction and replacing inappropriate plantings. The grant will be also used to amend the soil and receive a tree to add to the pollinator and monarch butterfly friendly plants.

“This grant allows the flexibility in our budget to include plants that provide nectar for the monarch butterfly as they migrate south, adding an exciting dimension to what the city is accomplishing in the Hopkins Street beds,” said Melani Howard, Habitat Conservation Plan manager. “Materials will also be used to plant, maintain and restore native garden demonstrations, which will serve as a model to educate and engage community members.”
