Come to Pet Fest Saturday — and bring a furry friend

Friday, October 19, 2018

It’s been a tough several months for homeless companion animals, as the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter has been at capacity for some time and $1 comprehensive pet adoptions continue through the end of the month.

And although there are different schools of thought about the city of San Marcos, Hays County and other municipalities can do to shrink the problem, one group Prevent A Litter, has been stalwart in their efforts to pair adoptable pets with loving families.

Tomorrow, the 16th annual Pet Fest offers the perfect opportunity for locals to support the group by donations of dog and cat food or cash.

Everything happens at San Marcos Plaza, 401 E. Hopkins along the bank of the river, with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. That will be followed by a blessing of the animals at 10:15 a.m. followed by live music until 4 p.m.

Daylong events include dancing dogs, a Police K-9 demonstration, a turtle egg and zombie hunt, interactive AKC rally course, “chicken drop” bingo, dog races and contests to judge the pets and owners that most closely resemble one another,

On hand will be rescue groups, information on Prevent A Litter and Trap-neuter-return management of feral cat colonies food vendors and a silent auction.

Admission to the festival grounds is free for anyone who brings  donation of pet food. For more information, visit PAL's website.
