First court for Becerra is this morning
County Judge Ruben Becerra will preside over his first Hays County Commissioners Court meeting this morning. The meeting is slated to include several executive session items regarding county staff, including positions in the county treasurer’s office, the county judge’s office, the director of development services and the command staff executive assistant at the sheriff’s office. These closed-session items all entail consultation with counsel. Action could follow in open court.
In other business, the commissioners will consider two interlocal agreements related to the 2019 Hays County Feral Hog Program. The first agreement is with the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service and involves a grant of $13,100 for feral hog abatement efforts. The County Feral Hog Abatement Grant is meant to encourage counties across the state to reduce the feral hog population. Hays County is part of a regional feral hog abatement effort with Caldwell and Guadalupe counties.
The second agreement is with Texas State University’s Meadows Center for Water and the Environment for professional services related to the feral hog program. The Meadows Center will provide services including general project management, website development, a social media campaign, landowner outreach events, a damage assessment, a cost-sharing incentive program and a remote-operated feral hog trap sharing cooperative.
In other business, the commissioners will consider the transfer of more than $2 million to Central Texas Medical Center and Seton Medical Center Hays for uncompensated care payments. The payments are part of the Texas Healthcare Transformation and Quality Improvement Program.
Commissioners are also set to clarify the titles of county courts at law bailiffs as “Deputy Constable-Bailiffs” who will not be considered part of the Collective Bargaining Unit, and to consider the reappointment of Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe to the Economic Development San Marcos Board.
