The city is hosting a ribbon-cutting and key presentation ceremony on Monday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. at 906 Conway Drive, to mark the completion of the first home rebuilt using CDBG Disaster Recovery funds.

The keys to the home will be presented to Carmen Martinez, a 68-year resident, whose home flooded twice during 2015.

The reconstruction was funded as part of a $33,794,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR) awarded the city after the 2015 Memorial Day Flood.

Some 75 applications for assistance have been received, and the first five reconstructed homes should be complete by the end of the year.

Three more will break ground in the surrounding area early next year.
