Forced entry and assault on officer featured in weekend police reports

Weekend San Marcos Police activity included one incident of officers making a forced entry in a case of family violence and another in which a woman suspected of being drunk kicked an officer “multiple times.”

Officers responding to a report of a physical disturbance in the 1200 block of North LBJ Drive at 3:51 a.m. Sunday encountered a woman who said she had been choked by a man described as her boyfriend after the two argued about rent money.

The boyfriend, 44-year-old Mark Daniel Gonzalez, was at the residence, SMPD Commander Erik Spriegal said in an email, but “retreated inside” when told he was to be placed under arrest.

“Officers forced entry and placed (Gonzales) under arrest,” Spriegal wrote, adding that Gonzalez “resisted transport” by not allowing officers to “safely transport” him to jail. As of Monday, he was  still behind bars under bonds totaling $15,000.

In an unrelated case, officers responding to a collision in the 1900 block of Aquarena Springs Drive at 4:36 a.m. Saturday encountered a woman identified as Desirae Salas, who “showed several signs of intoxication.”

Spiel wrote that she refused treatment from EMS and also refused to participate in a field sobriety test. While attempting to arrest her, she kicked one officer several times. Lauren Volpe of the city’s communication department said the kicking caused the officers pain, though the officer didn’t seek any medical treatment.

Salas was jailed under bonds totaling $10,000 and released the next day.
