Former newspaper publisher injured in home fire that killed his wife

The former owner of the Dripping Springs News-Dispatch was injured and his wife killed in when their mobile home caught fire in Driftwood on Nov. 15.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said that Nelva Joyce Roberson, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Terry Kyle. Dale Alton Roberson, 81, was taken to Seton Hospital with second-degree burns over approximately 5 percent of his body. The HCSO said he is expected to recover.

Dale Alton Roberson was the former owner of the Dripping Springs News-Dispatch and a veteran Texas journalist.

The HCSO said the call about a fire at 1000 Buckskin Pass in the Rolling Oaks subdivision of Driftwood at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. Initial crews on the scene found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Kyle and Wimberley responded, along with the Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office and North Hays County Fire and Rescue.

County officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but that foul play was not suspected. The mobile home was considered a total loss valued at approximately $180,000.
