Jury gives Kyle man 70 years for sexual assault of a child

Hays County District Attorney Wes Mau said a jury “clearly understood” what a 12-year-old girl impregnated in a sexual assault had gone through.

Last week, the jury sentenced 55-year-old Jose Alejandro-Najarro of Kyle to 70 years in prison for the first-degree offense of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

In a press release, Mau said testimony revealed that although Alejandro-Najarro denied having had sex with the child, DNA testing on her baby “demonstrated that he was the father, to the exclusion of over 99 percent of the population.”

Mau congratulated Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Stalbaum and Rebecca Culpepper for their work on case, and recognized the work of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, and the school and medical officials who helped in bringing the case forward.

“The loss of innocence suffered by a child who is made to endure what this defendant did is incalculably tragic,” Mau said. “Alejandro-Najarro took advantage of a child’s trust, and robbed her of choices that most of us take for granted as we grow from children to men and women. No sentence can ever return that to her. The jury clearly understood that.”

Alejandro-Najarro had been in Hays County Jail since March 2016. He is also under an ICE detainer, which Mau said means he would be turned over to the federal agency should he be released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
