KZSM — Your station getting better

Sunday, April 7, 2019

This past week your true community radio station held a Wine Tasting and Tapas fundraiser at a local bread and breakfast. We are happy to report that the support from our community exceeded our expectations! As many of our listeners are aware, we are a nonprofit organization and subsist on the generosity of our listeners, supporters, family and friends who believe in what community radio has to offer. We often host events to not only support local talent and organizations, but to help keep the lights on and our programming on the air.

Our recent event was planned and coordinated by members of our staff who donated their time, effort, talents, and the wine, of course! Particular credit goes to our own chef in residence, Shannon Van Dorn who prepared the delectable delights, David —the Handsomest Boy on the Radio, who served as our sommelier, and Rebecca Doll, who arranged the use of the Perch or Flounder Bed and Breakfast which is located directly on the banks of the Blanco river. Of course, these stellar individuals could not have done it without the support of the rest of the KZSM family. We look forward to more events which allow the community to observe and recognize the many talents that your community radio family have to share.

As a non-profit, we have been eligible to apply for grant money from various organizations. This has allowed us to plan and explore the many possibilities of incorporating new and varied ideas that will improve what we offer our community. Equipment upgrades both in the broadcast booth, recording, and remote broadcast equipment will allow us to become a more integral part of the news and information distribution system that our city has been needing.

New program ideas are also currently being considered. As always, we welcome your ideas on suggestions on programs and services that we may be able to provide. There are still several types of programs that we would like to incorporate in our line-up such as an all-Spanish language program, Classical music, Bluegrass, children’s programs, just to name a few. Come and talk with any one of your radio hosts at the Farmer’s Market, in the Kissing Alley during our concerts, at an event we host, or come by the studio at 216 N. Guadalupe St. and share your ideas with us.
