KZSM is gearing up for the holidays

Sunday, November 4, 2018

Now that Halloween is behind us, most folks begin to focus on the impending holiday season. This is evident in stores where merchandise and home décor choices are about Christmas and to a small degree for Thanksgiving as well.

We’ve also already been hearing Christmas carols in some places. Your true community radio station will follow suit soon. Our radio hosts are already planning special programming to reflect the season.

Last year we had some unique programs put together and this year will be no different. Of course, we welcome suggestions on what you, our listening audience, would like to hear! We had two Christmas specials in Spanish and lots of programming with carols by many different artists.

In the Kissing Alley, we were graced by a performance of the San Marcos High School Orchestra playing Christmas music for us. This year we are looking into the possibility of having a gospel choir to serenade us with the sounds of the season.

The heavy metal music community going to do it again at Jack’s Roadhouse, another three-day metal fest on Dec. 13-15! This metal fest will be a toy drive to benefit the children of San Marcos. Admission will be a new, unwrapped toy which will be taken to the Southside Community Center to be distributed to the children of San Marcos.

Between now and then, we still have the month of November ahead of us. This month, aside from the fashion show being produced by students from Texas State, we will be entertained by Ella Reid, Nate Guthrie and Lina Clarke. These are three singer/ songwriters who will be performing acoustical sets. Our concerts are always free, family-friendly, and open to the public.

If you are interested in becoming a member of your true community radio family, then join us for our next volunteer staff meeting. Due to scheduling conflicts, this month’s meeting will be held at the LBJ Museum rather than our regular meeting location. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and will end at 9 p.m. Bring your ideas and suggestions on how we may serve our community better.

Ever thought about hosting your own radio show? We can make that happen! Talk to any one of our staff members at the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, the Kissing Alley concerts, or at any one of the events that we host.
