Local man jailed for assault on ER nurse

SMPD Reports

San Marcos streets were relatively quiet in the days preceding Christmas, but officers did make several arrests, one at Central Texas Medical Center.

Ronald Edward Turner, 62, of San Marcos was charged with assault on a person providing service, a third degree felony, for allegedly scratching and hitting a nurse while flailing his arms in the Emergency Room late on Dec. 21.

Officers were sent there at 11:20 p.m. for a report of a verbal disturbance. While they were en route, however, the situation escalated and officers were told the patient, Turner, had become physically combative. “The nurse advised Turner began to swing his arms in an aggressive manner,” Lauren Volpe, a marketing and multimedia specialist with the city of San Marcos said in an email response to a Daily Record query about the incident. The Record is not allowed to speak directly to police personal according to a city policy that directs all questions through the office of Kristy Stark, communications and IGR director.

It was unknown why Turner was in the ER to begin with. He was released from Hays County Jail on Christmas Eve after a $6,000 surety bond had been posted.

In an unrelated case, officers responded on Dec. 22 to the 2900 block of Hunter Road where a 29-year-old man had been stabbed “several times” in his left torso. “The victim was uncooperative, but witnesses identified the offender as Hector Robert Escobedo, Jr.,” Volpe wrote. Escobedo, 24, was stopped by police as he attempted to leave the area.

The victim, who was not identified, was rushed to Seton Medical Center Hays, where he underwent surgery. Volpe said she did not know the victim’s current condition.

Escobedo was booked into Hays County Jail and remained there as of press time Thursday under bonds totaling $17,000. Of that, $10,000 was for the charge of aggravated assault, a second degree felony, and $7,000 for a third-degree charge of tampering with physical evidence. Volpe’s comments did not address the latter charge.
