Monday threat on campus deemed to be ‘not credible’

Tuesday, August 28, 2018

What officials called a “non-specific, unverified threat” to the University of Texas Main Building, Austin’s municipal and community courts, and Texas State University on Monday morning was apparently an empty threat as well.

Texas State University Police (UPD) posted on Twitter Monday morning that the university’s San Marcos campus had received a threat identical to one that was made against the University of Texas and the municipal court and community court in Austin. Authorities called the threat non-specific and unverified and stated that no credible threat had been identified.

Officials with Texas State University said that no buildings or areas on campus had been evacuated.

“UPD is continuing the investigation of the unspecified threat sent to the San Marcos campus, UT Austin and the City of Austin,” a later tweet from UPD read. “The investigation is being assisted by local, regional and federal agencies. There continues to be no credible threat to our campuses at this time.”

This is not the first time in recent memory that the Texas State campus received a threat.

In 2012 and again in 2014, suspects were arrested for making bomb threats targeting the university.
