More in Hays voted early than in the 2016 Presidential year

Sunday, October 28, 2018

More than 28,000 Hays County voters cast their ballots during the first five days of early voting.

As of Friday evening, 28,384 ballots had been cast around the county. The bulk of those — about 19,400 — came during the first three days of early voting. Voter totals for the first three days exceeded turnout for the first three days of the 2016 general election by about 5,700 and the turnout for the first three days of voting in the 2014 midterm by about 14,600. Turnout at the Texas State University campus was 2,965 in three days. Early voting will resume on campus Nov. 1-2, and a polling place will be open at the LBJ Student Center on Election Day. After an emergency meeting brought about by the threat of a lawsuit from the Texas Civil Rights Project, the Hays County Commissioners Court agreed to reopen the Texas State early voting location and the Live Oak Clinic/health department early voting location, and provide a new early voting location at the Belterra Welcome Center in northern Hays County, along with the Election Day polling place on campus.

On the first day of early voting, the county experienced problems with equipment startup at two polling places, the county said in a press release. As of Thursday night, there had been no further equipment-related delays.

County officials noted in a press release that voters can cast their early voting ballots at any branch polling place. However, Election Day voting must occur at the corresponding polling place for that voter’s Election Precinct.

The Early Voting Schedule, as amended, is posted online at the county's website.
