Ozone Action Day today

Friday, August 3, 2018

Another Ozone Action Day has been declared for today, prompting the Clean Air Force of Central Texas to issue a warning to those who might be most affected by the diminished air quality.

The declaration, by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) mostly affects individuals with chronic lung conditions like asthma or emphysema, along with older populations and young children.

It means that today’s air quality is “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” a ranking just below “unhealthy.”

Authorities advise people limit driving on Ozone Action days and also to avoid idling, postpone refueling vehicles under after 6 pm. and postpone mowing lawns and using other gas-powered equipment until after 6 p.m.

The alert applies to Hays, Caldwell, Bastrop, Travis and Williamson counties.
