Gary Job Corps’ corrections cadets volunteered for highway cleanup as part of the “Adopt-a-Highway” program on Hwy.  21 —  PFC Kristian Menchaca Memorial Highway. Menchaca was a Gary Job Corps graduate who lost his life in 2006 in Iraq while serving in the U.S. Army. The original Adopt-a-Highway program began here in Texas in 1985.  Since then, it has grown into a nationally- and internationally-recognized litter-prevention-effort, saving taxpayers’ dollars and keeping rights of way clean. For more than four years the Gary Job Corps Center has kept the two miles in the front of the center on Hwy. 21 litter free.  Pictured are corrections cadets  Ana Diaz, Derick McCoy, Aliyah Alvarez, Mark Barron, Aaliyah Coleman, Paul Dunn Jr., Aaliyah Gordon, Monica Carr, Heather Smith, Dylan Tucker and Alexander Diaz, along with instructor Major Troy Oldbury.
