Police arrest three suspected car burglars and one man who pulled knife downtown
Weekend police activity included the arrest of three people suspected of burglarizing cars and one man accused of pulling a knife downtown — the latter resulting in a “high risk” traffic stop on Interstate 35.
The arrest of the suspected car burglars — all from out of town — came Saturday afternoon. Officers responded to the outlet malls around 3 p.m. where they spoke with witnesses to a couple of thefts from parked vehicles and were given a license plate number of a gold Toyota the suspects fled in.
It was located outbound on Hwy. 80 a short time later, police said in an email in response to a Daily Record request to City Hall for information on the incident.
“There were numerous bags and purses visible in the vehicle,” the email said. Kaylynd Brown, 23, of Baytown, Latrevia Rachelle Jackson, 22, of Houston and Johnisha Janae Granville, 21, of Houston have all been charged with burglary of vehicle, engaging in organized criminal activity, credit card abuse and possession of criminal instrument.
The “high risk” traffic stop, meanwhile, resulted in the arrest of Jose Francisco Valdez, 42, of New Braunfels.
Officers responded to the 100 block of North LBJ at 2:12 a.m. Monday for reports of a man threatening bar staff at Mayloos. Valdez had reportedly left the bar at closing but then tried to re-enter to use the restroom. Two employees saw him about to urinate at the front of the door and opened the door and told him not to. That’s when he reportedly pulled a knife.
The employees closed the door again and called 911. Police found Valdez later driving on the interstate and placed him under arrest for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In another report, police are still trying to ascertain the identity of a man who was reportedly “displaying a firearm” at Uptown Square in the 1300 block of Thorpe Lane.
A victim told police he and the unknown offender were at a party when the offender punched him in the stomach and then pulled a gun. The offender is described as a black man with dreadlocks who was wearing a white T-shirt.
