Residents have options for recycling live trees

When it comes time to recycle your live Christmas tree, they city of San Marcos is providing a number of options to make the chore more convenient.

The Christmas tree drop off in the parking lot of the Grant Harris Building at 401 E. Hopkins Street will be open through Jan. 11. Residents can drop off trees of all sizes at no charge, but they must be devoid of all ornaments and tinsel. The mulch will be available, also free.

Curbside Christmas tree service is available through Jan. 31. Trees up to 4 feet long can be bundled with twine (not wire) and set out with regular household trash or green waste on designated pickup days.

Green waste carts can also be used. Trees may be cut up and place in the green waste cart or put in paper bags and placed next to the cart.

Brush drop off will be held on Jan. 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enter at the San Marcos Animal Shelter, 750 River Road, and follow the signs. Any recycling questions can be sent to Recycling-Info@sanmarcostx.gov  or call 512-393-8407.
