River Steam

Thursday, November 15, 2018

The temperature at San Marcos Regional Airport dropped to 23 degrees overnight Tuesday, delivering an early hard freeze to the Central Texas region. The freezing temperatures also meant the San Marcos River was putting on quite a show after the sun rose Wednesday, steaming in the early morning air because the 72 degree year-round water temperature is so much warmer than the air above it. Spring Lake and Rio Vista were good places to witness the phenomenon, which quickly fades as the weather warms. Daily Record photo above by Denise Cathey, below by Anita Miller
