A memorial to the late Susie Mullen, known to many as Miss Susie or Susie the Viking Goddess, will be on an upcoming agenda for the Texas State Student Government.

At its meeting Monday night, the Student Senate heard a piece of legislation that would establish a memorial for Mullen inside the LBJ Student Center.

The legislation cites Mullen’s longtime involvement with Texas State and the San Marcos community, her status as a 1988 Texas State graduate, her tenure of more than 10 years at Texas State University Dining and her fundraisers for the local food bank.

“The presence that she created for herself in the Bobcat community has promoted values such as positivity, service and inclusivity,” the legislation reads in part. “... Her impact over the years at Texas State University has reached students, faculty and staff alike.”

The legislation resolves that Mullen’s “continuous work with Texas State University and the San Marcos community should be commemorated with the creation of a Ms. Susie the Viking Goddess Memorial inside LBJ Student Center.”

Mullen, a beloved local figure known to many as “Ms. Susie” or “Viking Goddess” because of her long braids, passed away last month. Mullen has been a restaurateur, artist, teacher, singer/songwriter and fixture in the annual Just For Fun Parade. She became known on campus as a person whose kindness was often a comfort to students going through stressful times or far from home.

If the legislation passes, it will go to the student body president for further action.
