Students at Travis turn pumpkins into characters from storybooks

The annual Storybook Pumpkin contest at Travis Elementary yielded a new crop of scary and adorable storybook characters created by students and teachers.Twins Teslee and Justina Lizotte won with their split Cowardly Lion and Tin Man pumpkin from “The Wizard of Oz” for the second grade category. The 10 winners of Travis Elementary’s annual Storybook Pumpkin Contest posed for a group photo in front of the school’s library with their winning pumpkins.Each winner received a book of their choice from the school’s book fair as their prize.

First-grader Khloe McDonald won the first grade pumpkin category with her Maleficent pumpkin.

Third-grader Micah Henson and fourth-grader Jeffrey Schaffer each won in their grade categories with BB-9E from “Star Wars” and The Grinch from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
