Texas State prof chosen for Women4Peace initiative

Sunday, March 17, 2019

Christine Norton, Fulbright Scholar and associate professor in the School of Social Work at Texas State University, has been selected to participate in the Women4Peace initiative in Colombia, sponsored by a 100,000 Strong in the Americas grant.

Norton will be joined by Texas State undergraduate social work student America Ambriz.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this project,” Norton said. “Having just returned from the Dominican Republic working on similar peacebuilding and justice initiatives, there is more need than ever in our world for a project like Women4Peace.”

Women4Peace helps undergraduate women cultivate leadership and knowledge through development projects that address peace and sustainability in rural areas throughout Colombia.

Women from participating universities will work on sustainability proposals for the engagement of women in rural/urban development. Training courses will be designed on the topics of sustainability and peace, rural field work activities and joint interdisciplinary research projects. A final proposal will be shared with identified issues for intervention by the United States and Colombia.
