TxDOT to break ground on Posey Rd. makeover

I-35 Project
Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Big changes are coming for those who regularly travel Interstate 35. On Wednesday, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be joined by city, county and state elected officials in breaking ground for a complete re-do of the I-35/Posey Road interchange.

The $31.7 million project, slated to be completed sometime in late 2020 or early 2021, will entail a total makeover. The existing Posey Road bridge over I-35 will be taken down and the mainlines of I-35 raised so that Posey Road will go under the interstate.

Also as part of Phase 1, the northbound I-35 ramps will be reversed, the frontage roads will be converted to two-way and traffic detours will be put into place.

Phase 2 will include reducing lanes on the frontage roads and shifting traffic on the interstate mainlines to create a work zone. Phase 2 also includes closing northbound ramps between York Creek Road and Posey Road.

During Phase 3 the northbound I-35 lanes will be shifted and southbound ramps will be reversed. In Phase 4, all reversed ramps will be opened between Centerpoint Road and York Creek Road, drainage structures will be installed and paving and striping will be completed.

Contractor for the project is Webber LLC and project development funding is through the Hays County/TxDOT Partnership.

Wednesday’s ceremony will be at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of San Marcos Toyota.
