Weekend wreck sends 5 people to hospital

Five people were transported to the hospital with injuries after a car wreck on Ranch Road 12 between Wimberley and San Marcos over the weekend. The wreck was similar to a crash that occurred on the same stretch of road two weeks ago that left four people dead.

On Sunday, July 1, at 5:44 p.m., a vehicle driving toward Wimberley crossed over the center strip and struck the rear of the driver’s side of a Chevy Avalanche traveling toward San Marcos. The accident occurred near the intersection of Ranch Road 12 and Oakwood Loop.

“The rear axle was knocked off of the Avalanche, and that caused the Avalanche to spin out directly into the ditch,” Wimberley Fire Chief Carroll Czichos said. “The first car continued across the road and struck a Jeep head on.”

The driver of the vehicle that crossed the center strip was transported to the hospital via Starflight in an unknown condition, as was a young child. Three other people were transported to the hospital via the EMS.

The names of those involved in the accident have not been released. The Texas Department of Public Safety does not release details of a non-fatal accident until 10 days after the crash occurred.

Ranch Road 12 was closed for an hour as first responders cleared the area for Starflight to land in the middle of the road, eventually clearing the accident scene completely around 7:30 p.m.

This accident occurred about 2 miles from the scene of car accident on June 15 that killed four people.

Pronounced dead at the scene of that crash were David Stuart Masullo, his wife Angela Mary Masullo and Ramiro Rodriguez, all of Wimberley. The couple’s daughter died in the hospital last week. The last Masullo family member involved in the accident was released from the hospital recently, according to an update on the family’s GoFundMe page.
