‘Run for the Americas’ marathon to be held on Rattler Homecoming weekend

The Rattler All Class Reunion and “Run for the Americas” will be held Nov. 9 - 10, on San Marcos High School Homecoming weekend, Ruben Ruiz, chair of the SMRAA, announced Friday.

Marathon runners from Texas, the U.S.A. and Mexico are expected to participate in the women-only SM Better Half Marathon, the SWT 15K, the San Mall 10,000, 5k run and Rattler Family Colors 5k walk or jog.

In addition, a new 3-ball Golf Tournament will replace the Tri-City Golf Tournament, but with three players per team instead of just two. Also new this year are prizes for all the runners. First plae winners in the marathon and half marathon will get $1,000 in gift cards. Every runner will get coupons to shop San Marcos.

Running events start at the corner of McCarty Lane and Leah, which is right in front of Amazon and Embassy Suites. The course is certified for time. The marathon course runs through three counties, behind the Outlet Mall.

SMRAA is a nonprofit with suport from the Distinguished Alumni and Rattler alumni with a wellness theme. Any profits are donated back to the community. Run co-chairs are Scott Yarbrough and David Peterson. Richard Garza is sponsors chair and Yuli Romero is Wellness Expo chair. The rest of the committees are yet to be finalized.

After a day of runs, the Expo, Golf Tournament and speakers, there will be the annual class reunion at the Embassy Suites, with a Distinguished Alumni reception, a Silent 100 Auction, dinner and dance.

All San Marcos High School alumni are invited, and all info and registration for all events will be up next week online.

Saturday, Nov. 10

• 8 a.m.: SM Marathon, 1 26.2 run on a certified course cligible for Boston marathon
• 8:15 a.m.: 1st Women Only Better Half Marathon
• 8:30 a.m.: The SWT-15k
• 8:45 a.m.: The SAN-MALL 10,000 (10k)
• 9 a.m.: The Saints-Souls Muertos 5k run
• 9 a.m.: Rattler Annual 3-Ball Golf Tournament
• 9:15 a.m.: The Rattler Family-Colors-5k walk/run
• 10 a.m.: Wellness Expo
• 11 a.m.: Award winners, all races
• 12 noon: Shopping/Fitness run/ walk at outlet mall
• 5 p.m.: SMRAA Annual All Class Reunion and Distinguished Alumni reception
• 6 p.m.: Annual 100-item Silent Auction
• 7 p.m.: Dinner
• 8 p.m.: Special Guest Bands’ Music Fitness — burn calories celebration dance.
