Sunday, July 29, 2018

More than two hundred and sixty animals ranging from common household pets to exotic birds are faring better now after their seizure from a Caldwell County farm Thursday.

Sheriff Daniel Law says the 261 animals were taken as part of an investigation into animal cruelty. They were taken by deputies armed with a search warrant from a residence on State Park Road in Lockhart and are now being properly housed and cared for.

They included 125 miniature pigs, 11 donkeys, some 30 chickens and roosters and 10 “barn” cats. Other animals included “hedgehogs and hoglets, Jenday Conures, Indian ringnecks, quakers, yellow nape Amazons, double yellow head Amazons, yellow crown Amazons, white bellied Caique, Illiger’s mini macaws, bare eyed Cockatoos, ducks, peacocks and peahens, Guinea fowl, llamas and Neapolitan mastiffs,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Prior to the seizure, independent animal rescue organizations had rescued approximately 29 dogs from the property including French bulldogs, giant airedales, giant airedoodles and a Neapolitan Mastiff.

The case is still under active investigation.
