Auctioning a legacy

Centerpoint Station filled to brim for Saturday's sale

Centerpoint Station’s doors opened one more time Saturday for an auction, where old signs, advertising and antiques were sold.

Owner J. Garland Warren, who died on May 3, 2010, was responsible for the eclectic collection of antique Americana memorabilia that lined the walls at Centerpoint Station.

Head auctioneer Robb Burley begins the auction.

The restaurant was filled to capacity with buyers, looking to buy a piece of Warren’s lifelong collection.

For head auctioneer Robb Burnely, he said Saturday’s auction was personal.

“This is a guy's lifelong collection and he's a local guy,” Burley told the Daily Record  before the auction. “This is going to have much more of a personal tie. People came in here to eat and saw this sign and plus people knew Garland. So I think it's a much more personal thing than a normal sale, and it's very seldom you see this size of collection from just one person coming to market. It doesn't happen very often.”
