Brushy Mountain Bluegrass Boys perform tonight

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

The Brushy Mountain Bluegrass Boys will perform at tonight’s Summer in the Park concert with their traditional take on bluegrass music at 7:30 at San Marcos Plaza Park.

“What the Brushy Mountain Bluegrass Boys are committed to is the sound of the old Appalachian bluegrass, mountain music that came along in the late 30s, early 40s. If you love traditional bluegrass music, you’ll love everything we do,” fiddle player Walt Roberts said. “We’ll have some good breakdown fiddle tunes, we’ll turn these boys loose on their instruments to play and you’ll see what they can do.”

Their show will have a healthy mix of originals that tie in seamlessly with their traditional covers of Bill Monroe and Earl Scruggs songs. The Brushy Mountain Bluegrass Boys is a band for musicians, all five members are established instrumentalists that have become prodigious in the American folk music style. Matt Downing plays the traditional five-string banjo and has played with Dolly Parton prior to the Brushy Mountain Boys; Roberts plays the fiddle – before the Brushy Mountain Boys he played fiddle for Asleep at the Wheel; Hunter Hollingsworth plays mandolin, Dom Fisher plays the upright bass and Jacob Roberts plays rhythm guitar.

The Brushy Mountain Bluegrass Boys will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and play until 9:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Plaza Park. The show goes on rain or shine, though if it rains the show will move to the San Marcos Activity Center.
