Case involving man found dead in San Marcos now considered murder-suicide
An investigation into a man who was found dead in San Marcos revealed that he was involved in a murder-suicide.
According to an investigation by the Sugar Land Police Department, Richard Logan, 53, shot and killed his wife — Diana Logan, 48 — and 11-yearold son before driving to San Marcos in Guadalupe County. When arriving in San Marcos he physically assaulted his daughter, who attends college in the city, SLPD said.
Richard Logan was later found dead from an apparent gunshot wound at TAS Environmental — located in Guadalupe County at 101 Dandelion Trail, San Marcos — on Tuesday.
After Logan was found at TAS Environmental, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office reached out to SLPD to report Richard Logan’s death in its jurisdiction. SLPD attempted to notify his family which lives on Evening Light Drive in Greatwood but were unsuccessful after several attempts.
Police said a family member of Richard Logan’s contacted a neighbor who provided access into the house. SLPD found Diana Logan and her son, who’d both been killed by gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the murder-suicide is ongoing. SLPD said police were not notified of the daughter’s physical assault in San Marcos.
Richard Logan was a former pastor and founded a nonprofit Attack Poverty, which connects people with jobs, education, medical care and spiritual outlets in underserved communities. According to the Associated Press, he frequently posted on social media about his nonprofit’s initiatives and his family.
“I think I share with everybody who knew the Logans a real sense of shock that this was so unpredictable,” Pastor Patrick Kelley at River Pointe Church said at a news conference Wednesday. “And we knew the Logans very, very well, and something like this … is just something you cannot predict or foresee.”
“The Attack Poverty family is in shock to learn of the tragedy involving our Chief Executive Officer, Richard Logan, and his family,” the nonprofit said in a press release. “We are cooperating with investigators and waiting for more information as we try to process this loss with our staff, volunteers and community.”
A family memorial service will be held at River Pointe Church in Richmond, Texas on Monday at 2 p.m.
