City awarded TWDB funding for nonpoint pollution mitigation

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) on Monday approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $3,209,900, consisting of a $1,935,000 loan and $1,274,900 in loan forgiveness, from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the city of San Marcos. The city will use the assistance for planning, acquisition, design, and construction of a project to mitigate nonpoint source pollution.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the city could save approximately $335,000 by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

The project will help improve water quality in the Edwards Aquifer and the San Marcos Springs and River.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
