Class of 1947 holds reunion, vows to hold another next year

Sunday, July 1, 2018

Don’t try to talk to an ex-student from the San Marcos High School Class of 1947 about discontinuing class reunions. They won’t listen!

Saturday June 23rd the latest reunion was held at Grin’s Restaurant in San Marcos. It was the 71st. But the six attending class ex-students whose ages are in the upper 80s were saying let’s do it again next year.

In addition to the six ex-students present there were three widows of ex-students. They were Billie Stoepler, wife of Otto Stoepler, Janet Scudder, wife of Carl Scudder, and Elva Rush, wife of G. B. Rush. Also present were another six spouses and siblings serving as drivers and health aides.

All enjoyed hearing the status of the class scholarship program valued at almost $75,000 which now provides almost $3,000 each year for San Marcos High School graduates who will attend Texas State University. The scholarship program was adopted at the class 50th reunion in 1997 with funds raised by class members and has generated $43,550 in scholarships to date. The scholarship program is our legacy to SMHS and to education.

Next summer we will test the interest and if it is still there then we will do it again.
