Commissioners to consider influenza proclamation

Hays County will consider a number of items at the Hays County Commissioners Court meeting this week. 

The commissioners court will meet at the Hays County Government Center, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, Courtroom No. 10 at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. 

The Commissioners will consider adopting a proclamation declaring Dec. 1-7 as National Influenza Vaccination Week. 

According to the proclamation, “in Hays County over the past 2 years (2016- 2018) approximately 4,700 people have tested positive for Influenza and additional 18,000 were diagnosed with Influenza-like-Illness without benefit of testing.”

The proclamation urges members of the community to make sure that “they, their loved ones, and those for whose health they bear responsibility, are current on their seasonal Influenza immunization.”

In other business, the commissioners court will consider accepting the delivery of the internal examination reports for the District Attorney's 2017-2018 Drug Forfeiture Fund Account and the 2017-2018 Elections Office. 

The internal examination reports were conducted by the Office of the County Auditor and reviewed the District Attorney’s Forfeiture Fund for the period of Sept. 1, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2018 as well as the Elections Administrator’s financial records for the period of Jan. 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018. 

The reports provided by the county detail errors and opportunities for improvement. 

“Internal control weaknesses for the District Attorney’s office consisted of multiple clerical errors, disbursement shortages and overages, and untimely disposition of forfeited funds,” the report reads. 

The review of the elections office stated, “Based on the internal examination our review disclosed several internal control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the elections office.”

The court will also discuss and take possible action regarding the interim video and audio streaming services for commissioners court, which is being held at the Government Center due to a major water leak at the Hays County Courthouse, according to the agenda item. The Government Center has no streaming capabilities, states the agenda item. 

Likewise, the court will consider approving the reappointments of Pct. 1 Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe and Bobby Warren to the San Marcos Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 5 Board of Directors, with a term ending Dec. 31, 2021.
