Commissioners to discuss road bonds, other items

Commissioners Court
Tuesday, May 14, 2019

At its meeting this morning, the Hays County Commissioners Court will clarify a resolution supporting the dedication of a portion of roadway for a veteran born in Henly.

The court is set to vote on a resolution of support for dedicating a portion of U.S. Highway 290 in honor of John A. McCarty. The commissioners had approved a resolution on Dec. 18, 2018, to support the dedication but did not specify the location of the portion of roadway to be named in honor of McCarty. This resolution states that it will be the stretch of U.S. Highway 290 between the Hays-Blanco county line to Hays Country Acres Road.

The commissioners are also slated to hear an update this morning on the issuance of bonds related to the county’s 2016 road bond. The county’s financial adviser will give a presentation on the timeline for issuing bonds, which are slated to be sold through negotiated sale in July.

Also on this morning’s agenda is approval of out-of-state travel to send a Hays County Sheriff’s deputy to a breaching course in August. The deputy is on the county’s SWAT team. The breaching course will cover facets of mechanical, thermal, power tool, ballistic and explosive breaching techniques and help attendees identify the most suitable method of entry for a given target. Funding for the course and travel will come from the sheriff’s office accounts.

The Hays County Commissioners Court meets at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the Hays County Courthouse, 111 San Antonio St. Meetings are also streamed live
