Community radio KZSM welcomes everyone
“What kind of music do you like?” This question has been instrumental in initiating conversations about your true community radio station and making people aware that we exist. After 19 months of broadcasting, there are still folks who have no idea that we are here and serving our community. Usually, we can follow with, “As a matter of fact, we have a program just for you!”
The beauty of a community radio station is that we reflect the atmosphere of our unique city and environment. Our radio hosts, DJs, and staff are all local individuals, most of whom have no prior radio experience. These intrepid individuals are your friends, neighbors, or co-workers who have been given a platform from which they share what they are most passionate about. Whether it be music, issues, or ideas, KZSM and your neighbors deliver the goods! Our musical programming, although not comprehensive, is still diverse enough to be able to say, “As a matter of fact, we have a program for you,” most of the time. If we don’t have what they like, then we invite them to join our staff or attend our staff meetings, so they can share their passions and ideas with us and with others.
Of course, not everyone wishes to talk to world over the airwaves. We have many opportunities for those who would prefer to help behind the scenes or in other low-key positions. From technical or administrative support to students in need of internship hours, there is plenty to get done.
Come by the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, the Kissing Alley every third Thursday, by our studio, or any of the functions that we host and talk to a friendly member of our staff to find out how you can join your true community radio family.
As a reminder, join us at the Buzzmill from the 21st to the 23rd of September for our KZSM 78666 Triple Threat Heavy Metal fundraiser. Eighteen bands in three days, this event promises to even bigger and better than the last one! Our Fall Fundraiser will be held at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Oct. 20. Start getting your costume ready for our costume contest to be held in the month of October in the Kissing Alley. Expect wedding bells to be ringing as our KZSM staff will be performing weddings in the Kissing Alley during the month of February. More details to follow…
