County looks to revamp school safety training video

Commissioners Court

Revamping a school safety standard response video and an agreement with Comal County over seized property are on the Hays County Commissioners Court agenda this morning.

The commissioners will discuss and consider implementing an interlocal agreement with Texas State University for the redevelopment of a standard response protocol training video. The county says that in the past five years, Hays County officials have used an internally created video to train more than 100,000 students, teachers and first responders on standard response protocols for school safety. The Office of Emergency Services, acting on requests from school faculty and community members as well as its own observations, wants to create a “kid-friendly” version of the training video for elementary students and add closed captioning to the existing video. The request does not require any additional funding.

An interlocal agreement between the Hays County Narcotics Task Force and the Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office is also on the agenda. The agreement is needed to regulate the disposition of forfeited contraband and of property seized by law enforcement officers. The Hays County Narcotics Task Force carries out some operations in Comal County.

The commissioners will also consider, as part of their consent agenda, authorizing a grant application for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program through the Texas Department of Emergency Management. The application is for a grant for the county’s acquisition and demolition project, which was submitted to FEMA but did not receive funding. The total project cost is about $3.8 million.

The commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the Hays County Courthouse. Meeting are streamed live on the county’s website.
