Early appearance by Santa Claus will benefit Own Your Own Universe, animal shelter

Sunday, October 28, 2018

Santa Claus is coming to town and his initial visit will be very, very  early.

Old St. Nick will make an appearance in San Marcos the afternoon-evening Sunday (Nov. 4) at the Railyard restaurant, 116 S. Edward Gary St. There, he will greet children of all ages between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., listen to their requests, have photos taken and pass out candy treats.

Santa’s local visit may be just after Halloween and before Thanksgiving, but it’s reported he is beginning his visits early due to the many places he wants to visit before Christmas.

It is part of an afternoon-evening long pre-Christmas Jamboree at the Railyard, that begins at 2 p.m.

At that time, local author and semi-retired newsman Jerry Deal will hold a book signing of his two acclaimed children’s books, “Famous Dog Chowski” and “Famous Dog Chowski’s Adventurous Trip to Europe” until 4 p.m.

Deal is offering the books at half price, with donations of any sales to be made to Terri Hendrix’s You Own Your Own Universe’s  arts and music program for youngsters, and the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.

The book event will be ongoing the same hours (2-4 p.m.) that talented musician Sarah McSweeney performs.

Songtress McSweeney, who presents her varied music, including jazz and pop, throughout Texas and beyond, has a weekly radio show and also teaches music at the Wimberley Montessori School.

She has opened for a number of nationally known performers. She combines her classical training with meditation and mantras in unique contemporary songwriting. She plays five instruments, including piano and guitar.
