Gleason intends to run for City Council

Monday, July 15, 2019

Mark Gleason, current vice-chair of the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission, has announced his intention to run for San Marcos City Council Place 1.

“I am proud to announce that I will be running for San Marcos City Council Place 1," Gleason said. "My wife, Ruah, and I have been homeowners in the Blanco Gardens neighborhood for nearly 20 years.

“I want to protect our beautiful rivers and green spaces, promote multi-modal sustainable transportation, spend tax dollars wisely, attract new jobs and economic development, and preserve the history and heritage of our community. I believe we can manage our growth responsibly without sacrificing the quality of life that has made San Marcos the shining gem of Central Texas.

“As vice-chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, I have voted for zoning to bring traditional single family housing and an economic development project that is expected to bring over 2,000 jobs in the upcoming years. I also voted for the new Land Development Code that provides more options for home ownership and workforce housing. I supported rental registration initiatives. I’m asking for the opportunity to bring my proven record and unique perspective to our city council.

“Like many in our community, our home and neighborhood suffered major damage in both 2015 floods. The negative impact of inappropriate development has caused our community much unnecessary suffering. With your support, I promise to work to protect our community while enhancing opportunities for all of the people of San Marcos for generations to come.”

Last year, Gleason ran for City Council Place 5 against Rick Henderson and Jocabed Marquez, but was ultimately defeated by Marquez.
