HELPING HANDS

Texas State University students from Dr. Oren Renick’s Health Law undergraduate course built a wheelchair ramp for San Marcos resident Mary Ann Lopez with donated supplies from McCoy’s Friday morning. Sarah McCahill and Mallory Wallace secure a board to the ramp with an electric screwdriver. Daily Record photos by Rachel Willis

Lydia McDuffy and Ashley Hackney tap wood spacers in between boards before screwing them into place, while Service Learning Program Director Stephanie Rodriguez holds the board level. The students volunteered as part of the Safe at Home Program that helps reduce fall risks as one San Marcos resident’s home per semester. Lopez was selected for this semester after breaking her back seven times and was assessed as being prone to falling.
