Thursday, June 6, 2019

Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos welcomes the hit NPR show “From the Top” as a prelude to the Texas State International Piano Festival and the “From the Top Live” show taping occurring on Saturday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in Performing Arts Center Recital Hall at Texas State University.

On Friday, June 7 “From the Top” staff will host a community engagement day for 24 Centro piano and strings students currently participating in Centro’s Music Instruction Programs.  These students will be guided and coached by “From the Top” pianists and string musicians. The community is invited to a piano recital beginning at 3 p.m. with a celebration to follow.

Come enjoy beautiful music and share in an incredible experience for our San Marcos students provided by “From the Top” and Centro.

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with an introduction. From 10:15 a.m. to noon, students and participants will hear coaching tips. After a one-hour lunch break, students and participants will receive coaching until 2:30 p.m. After a break, the piano recital will begin followed by the community celebration and reflection on the day.

Based in Boston, "From the Top" is an independent nonprofit organization that supports, develops and shares the artistic voices and stories of young classically-trained musicians. Its national platform and leadership programs amplify the hope, passion and discipline of today’s extraordinary young musicians.

"From the Top" provides young musicians with live performance opportunities in premier concert venues across the country, national exposure to over a half million listeners on its weekly NPR show, leadership and community engagement preparation and more than $3 million in scholarships since 2005.

"From the Top," distributed by NPR, is the most popular weekly one-hour music program on public radio. Young performers share their passion for classical music and speak about their non-musical lives, from career goals and family to hidden talents, school, and community life. All musicians who appear on the program participate in "From the Tops" Arts Leadership training and a community engagement experience.

"From the Top" programs are made possible in part by an award from the National Endowment of the Arts, a grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, the generous contributions of individuals and institutions, and partnerships with radio stations nationwide. Learn more at their website.
