Intersection improvements will be addressed in public hearing

Tuesday, July 9, 2019

This evening the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a public hearing to present a proposed improvement project on Wonder World Drive and Hunter Road.

The proposed project will add two pedestrian refuge islands to the intersection, add bicycle lanes along intersection approaches on FM 2439 and update signing and striping at the intersection.

According to a notice by TxDOT, “The purpose of the proposed project is to enhance safety and mobility in the project area without widening either Wonder World Drive or Hunter Road. The proposed refuge islands would shorten pedestrian travel time through the intersection and the designated bicycle lanes will enhance bicyclist safety.”

In addition to not causing any widening on either road, the project is not expected to generate any residential or non-residential displacements. Project members, including City Engineers, TxDOT Engineers and consulting staff, will be present at the hearing to address any questions the public may have. The meeting will begin on Tuesday with an open house at 5 p.m. followed by an official presentation of the project at 5:30 p.m and will be held at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413, 1701 Hunter Rd.
