Judge: Man accused in hazing death must give phone passcode

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A judge says a former Louisiana State University student charged in the alcohol-related hazing death of a fraternity pledge must give prosecutors the passcode to his seized cellphone.

The Advocate reports the judge ruled Monday that 20-year-old Matthew Alexander Naquin of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas must give prosecutors the phone's password. The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office confiscated the phone but had been unable to access its content because it's password-protected.

Naquin is charged in the death of 18-year-old Max Gruver of Roswell, Georgia. Gruver died last year after a Phi Delta Theta hazing ritual that required pledges to chug hard liquor.

Naquin is scheduled to stand trial July 8. Ryan Matthew Isto and Sean-Paul Gott have pleaded no contest to misdemeanor hazing in Gruver's death.
