A memorial motorcycle ride for slain San Marcos Police Officer Kenneth Copeland will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the ride — which will weave through the Texas Hill Country, begins at 10 a.m. at Dick’s Classic Car Garage, 120 Stagecoach Trail All proceeds will benefit Copeland’s family. It is scheduled to wind up at the same location around 12:30 p.m.

The registration fee for single riders is $10; and it is $20 for double riders. Participants will receive a ride souvenir at registration.

The course will travel down Hopkins Street to downtown San Marcos, where it will circle Courthouse Square before turning south on Guadalupe Street and then Staples Road. It will continue on Staples (FM 621) until riders will take a left on FM 1979, then continue again on FM 621 to near Fentress, turning right on FM 20. From there, the ride will wind on to McQueeney before turning north on FM 725 to New Braunfels. Riders will then take FM 306 to FM 32, which will then return riders to RR 12 and then back to San Marcos.

Copeland, 58, an almost 20-year veteran of the SMPD, was killed Dec. 4 while serving a warrant for assault/family violence. His alleged shooter is in Hays County Jail charged with capital murder.
