KZSM — Giving, caring and having fun

Sunday, July 18, 2021

KZSM.org, your true community radio station, serves our listeners with entertainment that offers opportunities to make everyday life more rewarding for themselves and others.

Today at 11 a.m. on “Veterans Hour,” hosts Diesel Dee and Steady Steve will feature Team Red White and Blue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity. Team RWB leaders Dave Gmiter, Chris MacAllister, and Esteban “Marty” Martinez will be live in the studio to talk about their mission to deliver virtual and local, consistent, and inclusive opportunities for veterans and the community to connect through physical and social activity. Through activities that include kayaking, hiking, cycling, yoga and walking, the organization continues to provide alternate forms of social activity meant to improve the overall wellness of those it serves.

As their website explains, “active duty service members transitioning out of the military face many challenges including isolation, weight gain, lack of purpose, and other health issues. Team RWB is the antidote to the isolation and health challenges they face. To learn more about their work and discover how you can be involved, go to TeamRWB.org.

Our newest music show, “Perfect Hair” (Saturdays 10 p.m.-midnight), is also inspired by a desire to make the world a better place. “Perfect Hair” replaces “Noise Therapy,” another recorded show by “The Rev,” Fort Worth DJ Chris Marsh. The show’s focus on 70s and 80s glam rock reflects Marsh’s own background. “It’s not as heavy, more fun, what I grew up with. When you grew up in the 80s, you had to have perfect hair—the perfect feather, the perfect mullet,” he explains. “The first song I ever heard on the radio was “Little Willie” by Sweet. I was about 12 and that kind of influenced my taste in music my whole life. Then I discovered Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Ramones, and more.”

Marsh supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with live fundraisers and with his broadcasts. St. Jude’s treats children with cancer and does not charge their families for their care. Marsh originally created the “Perfect Hair” podcasts for Hope Nation Radio, the radio station for St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Like the hospital itself, the music he created was close to his heart: “It’s more fun, more me, more my roots.” So KZSM.org, like many other stations, now proudly broadcasts “Perfect Hair.”
