KZSM — More than just entertainment

Sunday, January 27, 2019

Last week we mentioned the training we have been conducting at the public library. Whether anyone who attends these classes chooses to host a radio program or not, the instruction is provided to inform and to generate interest in community radio. Non-radio host volunteers are also integral to the operation of your true community radio station although filling one-hundred and 68 hours of programming is still a goal. Conducting classes for children and teens during our DJ-101 classes during the summer, we also hope to gain some youth radio hosts as well. By opening the experience of community radio accessible to others, we hope to achieve a more diverse programming tailored to meet the specific needs of our community.

Our Kissing Alley concerts and various other programs serve to provide a venue for artists who are looking to expand and promote themselves in a more casual environment than on a larger commercial platform. This is especially important for young, up and coming performers who are looking to hone their performance skills in a supportive atmosphere. Of course, seasoned performers also have the opportunity to promote recent releases and upcoming performance dates as well. Everyone needs to start somewhere or have a place to call a home. KZSM provides all that and more.

For February, we are taking applications for couples who would like to have their nuptials performed in the Kissing Alley. A few members of our staff are ordained and are looking forward to performing services in a quaint and quirky environment. After all, why not be able to say that you got married in Kissing Alley? Wouldn’t that be a unique conversation starter and memory to share? We can perform the services at any time during the month. Please contact us at KZSM.org for more information.

Even if getting married is not what you had in mind, please join us for our regular Kissing Alley concert on the 21st for the San Marcos High School’s Salsa band and Jazz band.

Also coming up in February are another heavy metal concert series at Jack’s Roadhouse on the 7th and 8th. Metal Mark is doing it again with Metal Maniacs. We’ll see you in the mosh pit!

Our volunteer staff meeting will be held at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Wednesday, February 20th. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Come and join us!
