KZSM — Staff Update

Sunday, July 14, 2019

Your true community internet radio station is happy to announce the appointment of new staff members to our leadership team. These new staff members will bring valuable training and experience to our family.

Marisa Diaz, co-host of Indigenous Freedom Radio and now hosting her own program, Indigenous Too, is a recent graduate of Texas State. Although her employment prospects may lead her in other directions, we appreciate her dedication to advancing community radio in the meantime. Her education in business management will be an asset in helping us to continue to evolve and grow.

Steve Jones, host of San Marcos This Week, brings with him, years of education, training, and experience in audio/video production. As a veteran, he also possesses management and leadership skills. We are glad to have him onboard!

Rob Roark, Host of We The People, Revolving Door, and Vinyl Confessions, founder and previous board president, will stay on as Operations Director. His experience and dedication to this radio station has been essential in getting the radio station operational and continues so today.

We also welcome to our staff, a new member, Staton Johnson who is also a recent graduate of Texas State. She joins us as our first and only producer (so far.) She will assist Mark and Chris navigate the complexities of modern technology on Mixed Bag.

We are excited to be returning to the Kissing Alley. Third Thursday has taken on a whole new meaning! We kick off our return on August 15th, with Ace Pepper and the whole band as our musical guests! Come and enjoy the music, meet your favorite radio hosts, and if you’re feeling a little “cheeky,” then stay and join us for Karaoke After Hours following the concert in the Kissing Alley.

Would you like to get involved in community radio? From students needing internship hours to retired folk needing something fun to do, volunteer opportunities in community radio are always available. Whether it’s voicing your opinions on the air or sitting at a desk performing mundane but essential tasks, everyone has a skill to contribute. Our volunteer staff meetings are held every fourth Wednesday at Wake the Dead Coffee House. Join us on July 24. Bring your ideas and suggestions on how we may better serve our community. This is your true community radio station, come and be a part of it.
